Our impact and performance in 2020
2020 in review
Vision & ecosystem
Ever since Isaac Carasso made the first Danone yogurt in 1919, we’ve had the same purpose: bringing health through food to as many people as possible. This is still the guiding principle for our strategy and our corporate roadmap, and it has proven its worth again and again.
Now more than ever, consumers want food and beverages to combine pleasure and good health. Our products are health-oriented, and we’re constantly innovating to tailor them more closely to consumer tastes and promote healthier eating habits.
Now more than ever, human health is inextricably linked to the health of our planet. That’s why we designed our ‘One Planet. One Health’ frame of action—to promote sustainable eating and drinking practices so that people and the planet can stay healthy together.
Now more than ever, a business needs to create value for all of its stakeholders. This conviction inspired our dual commitment to economic success and social progress nearly 50 years ago, and it still shapes our roadmap now that Danone is an Entreprise à Mission—a purpose-driven company. It is also our guiding light in our effort to achieve full B CorpTM certification by 2025.
Covid-19 has brutally underscored the web of interdependence linking food, health, nature and prosperity for all. The pandemic makes our mission even more vital, with a shared call to action: All aboard the Food Revolution!
Meet the members of our Board of Directors and Executive Committee (as of April 29, 2021). In 2020, we became an Entreprise à Mission—a purpose-driven company—and created a Mission Committee to track our progress towards the social and environmental targets we incorporated into our articles of association.

Model & Strategy
In 2018, we put our ‘One Planet. One Health’ frame of action into practice by setting nine 2030 Goals, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations. We took the next step in 2020, when we became the first listed company to adopt France’s Entreprise à Mission (purpose-driven company) model. Our articles of association now contain four social and environmental dimensions are aligned with our 2030 Goals.
The Covid-19 crisis had a powerful impact on Danone in 2020, resulting in very uneven performance for our businesses throughout the world. In this challenging environment, we successfully identified major long-term opportunities arising from the strategic decisions we’ve made in recent years. This included reaffirming our leadership in plant-based products.
In line with the frame of action One Planet. One Health, Danone advances and monitors its sustainability performance through quantitative indicators and qualitative practices which reliability is reinforced by external audits.
Our 2030 Goals
Building on our dual economic and social project and our One Planet. One Health frame of action, we have defined a set of nine long-term Goals – aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations – to embrace the food revolution while creating sustainable value for our shareholders and ecosystem.
The 2030 Goals embed our business, brand and trust models for which we measure our performance through Key Performance Indicators presented in the following section.
